Autogenous Dermis-Fat "Baseball" Implant within the Scleral Coat

1990
It is a well-recognized fact that dermis-fat grafts are better than pure fat grafts owing to its lower fat resorption rate. From a geometric viewpoint, a dermis-fat ”baseball” implant can maximize the spatial distance under the constant range from the vasoinductive effect of the dermis. In addition, the spherical contour of the implant conforms to the eyeball's shape. This study included five cases who had a justifiable evisceration with a baseball implant. All of them received a postoperative orbital CT-scan follow-up at 12 weeks to quantatively analyze the rate of fat resorption and to qualitively ascertain fat homogeneity or cystic change. All of the results were satisfactory, and indicated that the procedure is readily available, feasible, biocompatible and predictable.
