Density effects on the translational motion from infrared induced rotational spectra of N2

1983
Induced rototranslational absorption spectra of N2, measured at room temperature at different densities, are analyzed in order to derive the pure translational profile. Our analysis shows that the peak of the translational profile itself sharpens with increasing density while the tails broaden. Suitable parameters to describe the observed density effects are introduced and their density dependence is discussed in terms of a simple model.
