Electron mobility and saturation of ion yield in 2,2,4,4-tetramethylpentane

Abstract The electron drift mobility μ and zero field free ion yield G 0 ft have been measured for liquid 2,2,4,4-tetramethylpentane using a waveform analysis. The saturation of the ion yield for highly ionizing radiation has also been investigated and parameterized using the Birks' equation. The results obtained are μ = 26.3±0.8cm 2 /V s.G 0 ft = 0.743±0.029 electrons/100 eV, and a Birks' factor ranging from kB= 0.222±0.014cm/MeV at604V/cm to kB= 0.141±0.021cm/MeV at3625V/cm.
