Turning around Pakistani Police: Need for a Comprehensive Training Need Assessment

2014
The Pakistani Police is facing a lot of challenges. It is always posited as a Dracula organization rather than public friendly. The rulers used it as its apparatus for gaining personal interest. The colonial background is indoctrinated in its employees. Numerous attempts were made for re-structuring, reforming and reorganizing of the Police department, but to no avail. The study analyzed the attempts critically and debated the possible reasons for these failures. The study concluded that a thorough, multi-dimensional training need assessment (TNA) is needed for turning around the Police as a professional organization. It is also recommended that in the TNA, all stakeholders (police employees), judiciary, academia and civil society, should be taken on board. Future directions for research are discussed.
