Minimally Invasive Left Pulmonary Resections Techniques

2020
The feasibility and advantages of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) major lung resections have been extensively described. Vats lobectomy can be performed with a traditional multiport approach (1-utility mini-thoracotomy with 2–3 instrument access ports) where surgeon and assistant standing in front of the patient, as described by Hansen et al. to biportal VATS (utility incision with another additional thoracoscopic port), finally to uniportal. The uniportal VATS technique was initially described in the early 2000s and involves the introduction of instruments parallel to a thoracoscope through one small incision; this approach allows direct visualisation of the target tissue and the pulmonary hilum from the front side.
