Study on Manufacturing of High Purity thin Iron Foil

2021
Thin metallic sheets and foils find applications in many industrial and consumer products. In the present work, cold rolling technique has been employed for manufacturing of High Purity Iron foil (with purity of 99.99%). Experimental study is performed by cold rolling a thin strip from thickness of 3 mm to 1 mm with a conventional rolling mill. The thin strips were prepared by electrolytic deposition of high purity iron powder (99.99% pure) within 4.5 days washing cycle followed by annealing process. Further a two-high Rolling mill was used for rolling the test specimens. The influence of annealing temperature, soaking time and rolling passes on the specimen were studied. Results show that there is a tendency of crack formation as temperature of specimen decreased during rolling. Maximum reduction in thickness up to 66.67% was achieved.
