Quantum Conformance Test.

2020
We propose a quantum protocol addressing the problem of conformance test, the task of recognizing whether or not a certain process conforms to a reference one. Specifically, we analyze the scenario where tested process produces an outcome that can be modeled by an ensemble of pure loss quantum channels. While this task involves in general a continuous parameters distribution of the outcome, the required answer is binary. For this reason we formulate the problem in the context of quantum hypothesis testing and we show that quantum resources, namely TMSV states, and a simple receiver design based on a photon counting measurement are able to outperform any classical strategy. Our model ?ts and can find application in transmission sensing an spectroscopy, for example with potential application to the quality check of chemicals production process.
