Expression of Galectin-3 and S100P in gastric adenocarcinoma tissues and its relationship with clinicopathological parameters

2017
Objective To investigate the expression of Galectin-3 and S100P in the gastric adenocarcinoma tissues and its relationship with clinicopathological parameters. Methods A total of 89 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma, who were hospitalized in the Cancer Center of Guangzhou Medical University between June 2013 and June 2015, were included in this study. The gastric adenocarcinoma tissue specimens (GAC group, n=89) and ≥5 cm adjacent normal gastric mucosal tissue specimens of cancer (control group, n=89) were collected during the operation. The expression of Galectin-3 and S100P were determined by immunohistochemical Max Vision TM method, and the positive expression rates of Galectin-3 and S100P between the two groups were compared. The relationship between the expression of Galectin-3 and S100P and the clinicopathological parameters of gastric adenocarcinoma were analyzed. Results The positive expression rate of Galectin-3 in the GAC group (78.65%) was significantly higher than that in the control group (50.56%) , and the positive expression rate of S100P (87.64%) was significantly lower than that in the control group (100%) , P 0.05) . Galectin-3 expression was correlated with tumor size, differentiation degree, TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and depth of invasion. S100P expression was correlated with tumor size, differentiation degree, TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and depth of invasion, P<0.05. Pearson correlation analysis showed a significantly negative correlation between Galectin-3 and S100P positive expression in the gastric adenocarcinoma tissues (r=-0.521, P<0.05) . Conclusion In gastric adenocarcinoma, the positive expression of Galectin-3 is up-regulated and the positive expression of S100P is down-regulated, which are closely related to the clinicopathological parameters such as tumor size, histological differentiation and lymph node metastasis.
