Synthesis of (+)-cassiol, a potent antiulcerogenic compound☆

Abstract (+)-Cassiol (1) [( S )-2,4-dimethyl-3-(4'-hydroxy-3'-hydroxymethyl-l'-butenyl)-4-hydroxymethyl-2-cyclohexen-l-one]was synthesized from methyl ( S )-3-hydroxypentanoate in 5.6 % overall yield in 10 steps.
