Research on radiation-hard EDFA used in space optical communications

The damage characteristics of two rare-earth-doped fibers irradiated by electron accelerator and 60 Co radiation source have been investigated, and the radiation sensitivity properties of the key components in EDFA have been compared. And moreover, a study on passive-transmission and radiation-hard EDFA based on modified erbium-doped fiber based on Cerium and hydrogen loading was carried out. The EDFA with improvement radiation-hard properties exhibits a transmission loss decrease by 0.35 dB under a total dose of 70 krad (Si) under the 60 Co radiation.
