The invention provides a method for designing a winding drum of a pavement laying vehicle. According to the method, the section of a pavement winding drum is designed as an ovaloid, elliptical or composite circle structure so that the pavement winding drum can be used for winding more mobile pavements. The method comprises the specific steps of step 1, designing the structure of the winding drum, wherein the winding drum comprises a left spoke, a right spoke, a supporting frame, a supporting drum and a supporting disc; the supporting disc and the supporting drum are disc-shaped structures in the form of an ovaloid, ellipse or composite circle; and the composite circle is a smooth curve formed by respectively butt-jointing the two opposite edges of a rectangle and two semiellipses; step 2, figuring out maximum stress value corresponding to a longitudinal beam; and step 3, adjusting n or the section area of the longitudinal beam until the maximum stress corresponding to the longitudinal beam is less than a permissible stress.
