PREVALENCE OF LEPTOSPIRAL ANTIBODIES AMONG CLINICALLY SUSPECTED DOGS

2010
A total of 77 serum samples were collected from dogs of both sexes and different ages brought to Madras Veterinary College Hospital (39) and Veterinary University Peripheral Hospital, MMC (38) with the history of pyrexia, anorexia, vomitus, diarrhoea, blood stained mucus diarrhoea, haematuria, oliguria and icteric mucous membrane. All the sera samples were subjected to Microscopic Agglutination Test (MAT) as described by OlE, (2005) using a panel of live leptospiral serovars (Australis, Autumnalis, Ballum, Canicola, Grippotyphosa, Hardjo, hebdomadis, lcterohaemorrhagiae, Javanica, Pomona, Pyrogenes and Tarrosovi). A 5 day old culture of leptospires grown in Ellinghausen McClough Johnson Harris medium containing 2 x 108 organisms/ml was used as antigen. A titre of 1 in 100 and above was considered to be positive.
