The handheld reading device performs three-dimensional virtual scene rendering on a real scene acquired by the first camera and displays a reading frame mixed with the real scene and the virtual scene through the liquid crystal screen. Compared with the prior art, the handheld reading device based on the augmented reality technology can generate virtue environments highly matched with the real scene and provided with realistic vision, hearing, touch, vigor sense, dynamicity and the like, and direct interaction between a user and the three-dimensional virtual scene can be achieved. Therefore, by means of the handheld reading device based on the augmented reality technology, children can obtain more sensory stimulation increase learning efficiency and learn in fun.
