Evaluation of cardiac tumors in tuberous sclerosis by magnetic resonance imaging

1991
Patients with tuberous sclerosis (TS) develop benign tumors in various organs, such as the brain, kidneys, liver, lungs and heart.1 Cardiac tumors are an important complication of TS, and can be seen with heart failure, arrhythmias or even sudden death.1 Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has recently come into wide use for the assessment of cardiac tumors.2 However, there have been no studies published of the MRI evaluation of cardiac tumors in TS. In the present study, the usefulness of MRI was compared with that of 2-dimensional echocardiography in patients with TS.
