Experimental Investigation on Temperature Characteristic and Temperature Control of Fiber Bragg Gratings

1998
Temperature characteristic of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) is a main factor that affects their performance, for instance, the variation of Bragg wavelength with temperature may limit their use in many application occasions, but at the same time, this variation also provides a possibility to finely tune the Bragg wavelength. In this paper, a method of using Peltier effect element and digital temperature control meter to constitute a cheap, convenient, but reliable and very useful device for maintaining a fixed temperature and for finely tuning the Bragg wavelength is proposed. The temperature control principle and experimental results are described.
