Test for Electromobility Solutions in the Euroregion Galicia-North of Portugal. The MOBI2GRID project

2012
Important progress made in different technological fields related to the electric vehicle (EV) allows developing new generation EV with significant advances in terms of range and vehicle performances. Nevertheless this development is still at an early stage with potential improvements, not only in the technical domain but also in the dimension of the vehicle concept itself. CTAG has been working intensively in different research programs to explore technical challenges of next generation FEV. As an example, in the project “MobiOne”, CTAG together with its Portuguese partner CEIIA, developed a dynamic electrical platform based on in-wheel-hub motors and studied the possibilities of some ITS technologies(cooperative communication and digital maps) to extend vehicle range. As a further step, they launched in 2011 the project “Mobi2Grid” with the main objective of carrying out a pilot test with FEVs in order to explore and overcome all technical and social barriers to expand electromobility in the Euroregion Galicia-North Portugal. This paper presents the project objectives and phases, including the electromobility observatory for the Euroregion, overall technical concept, definition of the pilot test to be carried out at the Vigo-Porto corridor and the results obtained so far. Finally, conclusions and next steps are outlined.
