The present invention relates to a high carbon steel wire having excellent fine steel cord drawing processability. Chemical components of the steel wire comprise, in percentage by mass, C: 0.60-1.00%, Si: 0.10-0.60%, Mn: 0.10-0.20%, Cr: 0.20-0.50%, S: ≤0.01%, P: ≤0.013%, Cu: ≤0.05%, Ca: ≤0.0010%, V: ≤0.005%, N: 0.0010-0.0040%, with less than 0.0010% of solid-solutionized N, Al: ≤0.0030%, Mo: ≤0.02%, Ni: ≤0.02%, and B: ≤0.0005%, with the balance being Fe. By optimizing the key elements, a steel wire having good mechanical properties, a particular pearlite microstructure, and simpler components is obtained, and the requirement for excellent steel wire drawing processability is met.
