A Novel Method of Lightning Protection for Airborne Antennas

Considering the rapid development of avionics and elevated demands for performance, novel lightning protection methods for airborne antennas are necessary. In this paper, a novel method of lightning protection based on improving withstand voltage is introduced. Based on simulation and experimental results, this method can protect integrated antenna and radome from lightning destruction, while maintain reasonable performance. An experiment has been conducted to support this design.
