Randomized controlled study on intravesical capsaicin therapy for overactive bladder
2008
AIM:To explore the clinical efficacy and the urodynamic changes of intravesical capsaicin administration for the patients with overactive bladder.METHODS:Fifty patients suffering from the overactive bladder were selected and divided randomly into 2 groups;25 patiens of the observed group were treated with intravesical capsaicin, and 25 patiens of the control group were treated with tolterodine. The clinical efficacy, the urodynamic changes pre-and-post treatment for 1,3 months, the adverse reaction were compared between the 2 groups. The follow-up study on the recidivation was carried out 12 months after the treatment.RESULTS:Both treatments relieved the syndromes of the patients and increased the urodynamic parameters significantly, and the treatment of intravesical capsaicin was regarded as better for the less adverse reaction. Both treatments can prevent the recidivation.CONCLUSION:The treatment of intravesical capsaicin is an effective way for the overactive bladder, and adverse reactions are few.The attention should be focused on the prevention of recidivation.
