Sensing and sensitive visualization of latent fingerprints on various surfaces using versatile fluorescent aggregation-induced emission based Coumarin derivative

There is a marked rise in the criminal activities in the society and it has become a difficult task for the forensic scientists to track any crime scene effectively. Hence, visualization of the latent fingerprints (LFPs) plays a vital role in the forensic field. In the present report, a highly sensitive solvatochromism, aggregation-induced emission (AIE) based 2-(4-nitrophenyl)-3H-benzocoumarin fluorescent dye (CFD) was fabricated with the help of ultrasonication protocol. A fluorescent property of the CFD was analyzed by photoluminescence (PL) spectrometry. The CFD produces greenish yellow emission in solid and fluid state. An in-depth detail visualization of LFPs showed detailed ridge patterns owing to the excellent chemisorptions of CFD on the ridge patterns of the finger under normal and UV source (365 nm). All the three types of ridge details were visualized without any background hindrance under simple and quick powder dusting method. The results revealed that, the present fluorescent dye can be successfully used in the detection of LFPs on various non-porous substrates surfaces, OLEDs applications and electrochemical sensing.
