Video-tape recording in radioisotopic study of the brain. Cerebrovascular disorders

1973
A video-tape recording system was introduced in radioisotope cerebral angiography with /sup 99m/Tc-perteclmetate and in /sup 133/Xe cerebral scintigraphy. Time-activity data were fed into a 1-inch wide video-tape and displayed later on the oscilloscope for detailed study and eventual photographic recording. The method proved to be of extreme value for improving the detection rate, especially of the small pathologic foci, decreasing the error of instrumeni setting which is often inevitable with direct photographic recording method, and cutting down the patient's expense for examination. By use of pen-writing recorder, videotape recording provided time-activity curves and the regional cerebral blood flow, cerebral vascular bed, and cerebral transit time could be calculated for multiple regions of interest. In cerebrovascular disorders, those data of regional circulation apparently were of great value for clinical as well as research purposes, particularly in combination with the visual images of radioisotope angiogram and /sup 133/Xe cerebral scintigram.
