PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide fiber that is superior in mechanical strength and heat resistance, has fire retardancy and a low dielectric constant, and can be plated; a nonwoven fabric obtained from the fiber; and a heat insulation material, electromagnetic wave shield sheet and separator for a battery using the same. SOLUTION: The polyimide fiber is obtained by the steps of: spinning a silane-modified polyamic acid resin composition (A) that contains an alkoxy-group-containing silane-modified polyamic acid (a) obtained by reacting a polyamic acid (1) with a partial condensate of an epoxy-group-containing alkoxysilane (2), and a polar solvent (b); and curing the resultant fiber.
