The multi pie relations between space and economic processes permit a broad spectmm of approaches. In economics, some views understand space as equivalent to distance and others incorporate a more social approach. Generally speaking, neoclassical economics works with an isotropic view o f space that understands it as being an independent variable in theoretical models that aim at defining the localization o f economic processes. As for economic sociology and geography, they stress the importance ofthe relational and social conditions of space, besides incorporating it as an essential element in economic processes. The abstract conception o f space is substihlted by one that accenhmtes its concrete content and gives sociospatial speci ficity to economic processes. The contributions of those two disciplinary fields prove that the analysis of economic processes are enriched when seen through their social embeddedness and geographic specificity.
