The Uses of Vague Language

Vagueness have been observed to occur widely in English language use . This paper applies principles of pragmaties tothe analysis of vague expressions ,describing the pragmatic consequences oftheir use . Asthe analysisis based on copious authentic ex amples taken from conversations and written texts ,we sum up eight functions of the uses of vague language .
