Comprehensive Approach to Lowering Measured Blood Pressure (CALM-BP)

2020
Hypertension is a chronic medical condition with marked increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure more than 140/90 mm of Hg in three consecutive measures. It increases the risks such as dysfunction of heart, brain, kidney and other organs as the force exerted by circulating blood against the walls of the body’s arteries and the major blood vessels resulting in damage. It is a silent threat to the health of the people all over the world. Hypertension is diagnosed most commonly among the age groups above 40 years both in male and female. Almost 1.13 billion people worldwide suffer with hypertension. Recent studies from India have shown the prevalence of hypertension to be 25% urban and 10% rural population. Hypertension could be managed with a comprehensive measure of lowering blood pressure. Primary and secondary prevention of hypertension could reduce half its mortality and morbidity consequences.
