Summary of Crop Insurance Programs Available to Arkansas Crop Producers

2012
Introduction Crop insurance programs are key risk management tools for U.S. crop producers. Such programs provide risk protection against low yields and/or market prices. These programs are administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency (USDA/RMA). The producer-paid crop insurance premiums are subsidized by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC). This brief summarizes the eight crop insurance programs currently available to Arkansas crop farmers. As Table 1 illustrates, five of these programs provide coverage at the individual (farm)-level, while three provide area (county)-level coverage.
