An instrument for the measurement of salinity in estuaries
1956
The instrument described was designed for salinity measurements in estuaries. It is carried in a boat, water being pumped through it from an intake which is lowered into the estuary. Electrical conductivity and temperature are measured and the salinity is computed readily from a nomogram. Radio-frequency circuits are employed for the measurements, the indicator being a milliammeter operated from a d.c. amplifier. The accuracy is better than ± 1/3 parts per thousand over a salinity range of from 0.2 to 50 p.p.t.
