A Social Network Service-based Disaster-Detection Technique through Content-based Location Extraction

2015
It is necessary to detect disasters to cope with disaster situations effectively. In recent years, disaster-related information has been communicated through social media, and many disaster-detection attempts have been done using Twitter. However, many tweets lacked location information, which is important for a disaster event. Thus, the tweets were of limited use in the role of disaster detection. This paper proposes a method to detect location information of a disaster using an advanced technique. An extracted disaster and its location information are utilized in decision support systems through which people can see the disaster situations comprehensively.
