The influence of media contents about health in the construction of the discourse about the body in young adults and teenagers

2014
The increase of Internet's popularity in recent years, as well as social networks even more recently, has dramatically changed the ways in which people carry out information searches [1]. This reality has also affected the information related to health, above all taking into account that this is one of the issues which most concerns Spaniards in recent years according to official sources [2]. Consequently, the search for information about health issues in Internet has caused the appearance of what doctors call the 'informed patient' [3]. The common practice in information searches about health not only occurs among adults but also has an impact on young adults and teenagers. This is a group, due to questions related to age, the need to live new experiences and inexperience, which faces doubts about aspects which are related to sexuality, drug addiction and other questions within the context called 'healthy lifestyle habits' and which correspond to topics such as alcohol, drugs, hygiene or nutrition.
