Continuous removal of Basic Red 46 from aqueous solutions using modified Portland cement in column study

2020
The aim of this study is the investigation of continuous removal of dye pollutant using simple and cost-effective removal technique. For this purpose, we have modified the shape and composition of Portland cement in the form of hardened rings with reusability properties to remove Basic Red 46 (BR 46) through the column study. The effect of five variables such as the contact time, adsorbent type, and percentage of modifier, dye concentration, and flow rate of BR 46 was studied. The results indicated that removal of BR 46 was enhanced by increasing of contact time and percentage of modifier and was decreased by increasing of flow rate and concentration of BR 46. Also, the analysis of experimental data was confirmed using Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherm models. Moreover, kinetic studies revealed the first-order model fitted well with experimental data. The results showed that modified adsorbents of the hardened rings of Portland cement were efficient for removal of BR 46.
