Optimal control of plasmin production by Streptokinase input: Towards optimal therapy in acute myocardial infarction

1992
Streptokinase is widely used in the therapy of acute myocardial infarction because it accelerates production of plasmin, the enzyme that dissolves blood clots. The optimal control problem of maximizing plasmin production in a given time interval has been formulated and solved on the basis of a simplified mathematical model that describes the conversion of plasminogen into plasmin taking into account the effect of anti Streptokinase antibodies. Particular attention has been paid to variability of the elimination rate constant of Streptokinase and results show that it greatly affects the shape of the optimal input.
