Rapidly Progressive Periodontitis in a Patient with Hyperthyroidism
1986
A study of the positive reaction and significant levels of antibodies against Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) serotype a (strain 511) by double immunodiffusion and micro-ELISA revealed the relationship between Aa infection and the rapidly progressive periodontitis in a 31-year-old female with hyperthyroidism. This latter finding was based on associated clinical, radiographic, historial features and laboratory findings. In addition, the indirect inhibition of antihyperthyroidism agent to neutrophils may be a factor of increasing susceptibility to an acute episode of periodontal lesions.
