Guerilla-aanvalle op koning Oedipus. 'n Skisoanalitiese lees van Alexander Strachan se kortverhaal 'Herinnering' (1984)

2006
Guerilla attacks on king Oedipus. A Schizoanalitical reading of Alexander Strachan's short story 'Herinnering' ('Memory'). This article explores how Deleuze-Guattarian thought can be applied to the works of Alexander Strachan. In this study of the first story in 'n Wereld sonder grense (A World Without Borders), 'Herinnering' ('Memory'), the focus will be on the portrayal of the anonymous narrator's subjectivity. It will be argued that the Oedipal structure within which the text is usually read, only serves to restrict the subjectivity of the main character within the oppressive family structure of the State and within the strict boundaries of a Cartesian, transcendental ego. Such a psychoanalytical framework cannot acknowledge the complexity and multiplicity of the nameless warrior's subjectivity. Deleuze and Guattari's reading technique of schizoanalysis will be used to show how this character may be read as a 'nomadic subject' - a Deleuze-Guattarian concept designating a post-Nietzchean, anti-Cartesian and anti-Oedipal understanding of subjectivity, one that finds in human subjectivity a radical multiplicity of constant becoming.
