A Mode for Predicting Passive Intermodulation Distortion in Microstrip Lines

This paper analyzes the generation mechanism of passive intermodulation of microstrip lines in the frame of self-heating effect. A new mode is developed for predicting power of the forward 3rd passive intermodulation product only from microstrip lines length, width and thermal parameters of dielectric. Three types of samples are designed and corresponding measurement are carried out. The experimental results confirm the effect of current density and length on passive intermodulation product predicted by the mode.
