IMAGENS E SENTIDOS DOS IDOSOS LONGEVOS SOBRE O PROCESSO DETERMINALIDADE DO CICLO VITAL IMAGES AND SENSES OF LONG-LIVED ELDERY ON THE PROCESS OF TERMINATION OF THE LIFE CYCLE

Objetivo: conhecer os sentidos e a imagens atribuidas por idosos longevos sobre a terminalidade do ciclo da vida. Metodologia: pesquisa descritiva, de abordagem qualitativa. A amostra composta por 30 idosos, acima de 80 anos. A coleta de dados realizada por meio de uma entrevista semiestruturada contemplando a caracterizacao sociodemografica e questoes referentes aos sentidos e imagens atribuidas a longevidade e a terminalidade da vida. Para analise dos dados qualitativos, utilizou-se o software IRaMuTeQ 0.7 alpha 3 e a Analise de Conteudo Tematica Categorial. Resultados: Os sentidos e as imagens atribuidos pelos idosos foram agrupados em 04 categorias simbolicas: dimensoes sobre a terminalidade de vida; dimensoes sobre a longevidade; atribuicoes associadas a velhice; sentidos associados as etapas do ciclo da vida. Conclusao: os sentidos e imagens do processo de fim de vida sao ambiguos, ora expressando vontade de alcancar uma longevidade maior, ora sendo representada pelo sofrimento, doenca e dor.  Descritores:  Envelhecimento; longevidade; representacoes sociais. Abstract Objective:  to know the senses and images attributed by long-lived elders about the terminality of the life cycle.  Methodology : descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The sample consisted of 30 elderly people, over 80 years old. The collection of data was done through a semistructured interview contemplating the sociodemographic characterization and questions related to the senses and images attributed to longevity and terminality of life. The software IR aMuTeQ 0.7 alpha 3 and the Categorical Thematic Content Analysis were used for analysis of the qualitative data.  Results: The senses and images attributed by the elderly were grouped into four symbolic categories: dimensions about the termination of life; dimensions about longevity ; attributions associated with old age; senses associated with life cy cle stages.  Conclusion: the senses and images of the end-of-life process are ambiguous, sometimes expressing the will to achieve a greater longevity, now being represented by suffering, disease and pain.  Keywords: A ging; longevity ; social representations.
