Risk factors for postpartum infections in pregnant women undergoing cesarean section and prevention measures

2014
OBJECTIVE To explore the risk factors for the postpartum infections in maternals undergoing cesarean section and put forward the prevention measures so as to prevent and control the postoperative infections in the maternals.METHODS A total of 1 055 maternals who underwent the cesarean section from 2011 to 2013were enrolled in the study, then the age, length of hospital stay, and complications were recorded in detail, the infection sites of 102 maternals with postpartum infections were analyzed, and the risk factors for the postpartum infections in the maternals undergoing the cesarean section were observed.RESULTS The postpartum infections occurred in102 cases with the infection rate of 9.67%;the postpartum infections occurred in 22 of 286maternals undergoing the cesarean section in 2011 with the infection rate of 7.69%,34 of 352maternals in 2012 with the infection rate of 9.66%,and 46 of 417maternals in 2013 with the infection rate of 11.03%.Among the 102 maternals with the postpartum infections,44.12% were the surgical incision infections,21.57%the genital tract infections,14.71%the urinary tract infections,6.86%the respiratory system infections,4.90%the digestive system infections. The leading risk factors for the postpartum infections included the old age, long length of hospital stay, complication of pregnancy-induced hypertension or cervicitis, use of ventilator or urinary catheter, long operation duration, unskilled operation of health care workers, and without antibiotics prophylaxis.CONCLUSIONS The incidence of the postpartum infections in the maternals undergoing cesarean section is increased year by year, with the situation of infections severe. It is necessary to take prevention measures on the basis of the risk factors for the postpartum infections in the maternals undergoing the cesarean section so as to control the postpartum infections.
