Artifact on bone SPECT of the lumbar spine.

1997
SPECT imaging plays an important role in the practice of nuclear medicine and is being performed with increasing frequency. SPECT provides a three-dimensional perspective with improved lesion detectability that results from the elimination of activity from overlying and underlying structures. Quality control is essential for accurate diagnosis. The common SPECT artifacts are related to camera uniformity, center of rotation, and patient motion. The recognition of SPECT artifacts is critical to achieve the diagnostic advantages available with the technique. The authors report an uncommon SPECT artifact caused by ureteral peristalsis during bone SPECT of the lumbar spine.
