Systematic investigation of combustion energies for popular metal-organic framework (MOF) materials reveals energy content comparable to conventional energetic materials, that can be further modified and fine-tuned through control of framework topology or isostructural ligand replacement to yield energy densities comparable to conventional energetic materials such as TNT and hydrazine-, diesel- or kerosene-based fuels.
