The modulated electronic structure of the acceptor graphite intercalation compounds
2008
We present the main aspects of the electronic properties of the graphite intercalation compounds, emphasizing their metallic aspects and their high anisotropy. The role of charge screening is examined. Quantum oscillatory effects which measure the Fermi surface show that they present a modulated electronic structure (MES). This MES is made of an alternating sequence of 3 dimensional graphite and of a 2 dimensional metallic sandwich, made of the intercalate layer nd the two adjacent carbon layers. This MES explains most of the observed electronic properties.
