Determination of Solubility of 1,3-2,4-Di-3,4-Dimethylbenzylidene Sorbitol

Solubility parameter δ of PP nucleating agent DDMBS(1,3-2,4-di-3,4-dimethylbenzylidene sorbitol) was calculated by means of group contribution method and its value was 26.54 J1/2 ·cm-3/2,On this basis,some compatibility parameters between organic solvents and DDMBS were also estimated such as P(DDMBS~C6H5CH2OH)=26.94,P(DDMBS~C6H5CH2CH2OH)=35.15 and P(DDMBS~1,4-dioxane)=113.83.Therefore,as a solvent to dissolve DDMBS phenylcarbinol was the best,and benzyl carbinol was better than 1,4-dioxane.The solubility and the solubility curves of DDMBS in the above 3 solvents were measured by a dynamic method,meanwhile,the equations between solubility and temperature were set up respectively in this study.At the same temperature,the solubility of DDMBS in the following solvents was phenylcarbinol benzyl carbinol 1,4-dioxane.
