The Effects of Different Rootstocks on Yield and Fruit Quality of Marsh Seedless and Redblush Grapefruit Cultivars

1999
In this study which was carried out between the years of 1991 and 1993 at the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Cukurova in Adana, the effects of Troyer and Carrizo citranges, Volkameriana, Yuzu, Cleopatra mandarin, Taiwanica, Beneke trifoliata orange, Citrumelo 1452, Common and Brasilian sour orange rootstocks on the yield and the quality of fruit of Marsh Seedless and Redblush grapefruit varieties were investigated and the most suitable rootstocks for these grapefruit cultivars were tried to be determined in Mediterranean Region of Turkey. The highest yield and the best fruit quality were obtained from the Marsh Seedless trees grafted on citranges and Yuzu rootstocks. The lowest values for yield and fruit quality were obtained from the trees grafted on Beneke trifoliata orange rootstocks. The highest yield and the best fruit quality were obtained from the Redblush trees grafted on citranges and Taiwanica. The trees of both cultivars grafted on Volkameriana rootstocks had unhomogen fruits and this rootstocks affected fruit quality negatively.
