Porous LSCO electrode fabricated with pulsed laser deposition for advanced thin film fuel cell application

2006
La0.5Sr0.5CoO3- (LSCO) electrodes of a porous/dense composite layered structure were fabricated on both sides of a YSZ (111) substrate by pulsed laser deposition. SEM and AFM analysis indicated the outer layer of the LSCO is of micro/nano porous structure and the inner layer is dense. Impedance spectroscopy analysis was performed on the LSCO/YSZ/LSCO sample from 300 to 600°C in air. The electrode area specific resistance was found to be ~1cm 2 at 600°C and was extrapolated to <0.1cm 2 for temperatures of ~700°C, indicating a good potential for the LSCO thin films to be used in applications such as the intermediate temperature thin film solid oxide fuel cells.
