Development of formation evaluation technology for coalbed methane. Final report, December 1990-December 1992

1993
The report illustrates methods of data integration and analysis of logging data to obtain isotherm, gas content, permeability, proximate analysis, seam thickness and cleat orientation. New tool technologies are suggested where current logging technology is insufficient. To determine reliable coal mechanical properties, a method and underlying mathematical model has been developed for correlating lab measurements on cores to the log scale and in-situ stress estimation, and wellborne/formation deformation (cavitation) studies. Coal core measurements for gas content and isotherm were evaluated for repeatability, accuracy, and applicability to the oil and gas industry.
