An intrinsic fibre optic chemical sensor based on light coupling phenomenon

2005
The paper presents the construction of a microfluidic structure in which optical fibres were used to create a microchannel and they serve also as an optical detector. Two fibres with removed claddings were used to manufacture the structure. The free space left by the removed claddings creates a microchannel, which dimensions depend on the diameter of the fibres used. The device was tested in refractometric and fluorescence measurements.
