Effect of crocetin on energy metablism in rats with myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury

2005
Objective:To study effect of crocetin on energy metabolism in rats with myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods:Rats were randomly assigned to one of five supplementary groups:crocetin(50 or 25 mg·kg~(-1)),normal diets without crocetin(model group),sham operation,or fructose 1,6-Diphosphate(500 mg·kg~(-1)) group. The myocardial ischemia-reperfusion model of rats was established by coronary artery ligation. The high energy phosphates(ATP,ADP and AMP) levels in myocardial tissue were measured by HPLC.The activities of serum lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),serum creatine kinase(CK) and ATPases in myocardial tissue were assayed. Results:Compared with the model group, crocetin reduced serum LDH and CK levels, and significantly increased ATP concentrations and the activities of Na~+/K~+-ATPase and Ca~(2+)/Mg~(2+)-ATPase in injured myocardial tissue. Conclusion:Crocetin protected the myocardial tissues from the ischemia-reperfusion injury by boosting ATPase activities associated with energy metabolism.
