Effectiveness of postmortem CT by summation of repeated scans (fused PMCT): A suddenly deceased infant with acute tonsillitis
2021
Abstract Postmortem computed tomography with 5-time image summation of repeated scans (fused PMCT) was performed on a 2-year-old boy with acute tonsillitis. Fused PMCT delineated cervical prevertebral lymphadenopathy clearly, reducing noise and improving soft-tissue contrast. Autopsy revealed airway stenosis due to severe tonsil swelling and prevertebral lymphadenopathy. While postmortem magnetic resonance imaging is better in soft tissue delineation, fused PMCT is considered a method of choice when using CT with a small X-ray tube capacity.
