Why a global perspective can benefit occupational therapy

2002
Amid the demands of everyday work, there is little time for reflection on the wider, global position of health care. The role of international organizations and their relevance to practice can seem remote. However, in the context of a multicultural society, no practitioner can ignore the varying needs of patients. Cultural diversity is broadening, and as such there is an increasing necessity for medical professionals to expand their knowledge of global health care. Having had the opportunity to visit services in other countries, it has been possible for the author to see the benefits of a wider perspective.
