Particles of a Project Management System We can know about the system logic as much as we know about its structure

2012
In this paper the author found evidence that a project management system* (Notes) has a unique and integrative project management system logic*. This was a study of conditions to reveal, explain and apply system logic. The results of the study have shown that system logic is controlled by relationships between particles* of a system. In project management system a particle can be defined as the most detailed element of system structure that can be identified with an element of factual project documentation*. For example, the particles of PMBOK Guide are nearly all outputs and open start inputs of its processes. The paper introduces reader into relationships between particles of a system and shows how this can help to: 1. Reveal system logic by analyzing the content and relating the particles of a system. 2. Explain system logic by synthetizing the relationships and the chronological sequence for particles and high level elements of whole system. 3. Apply system logic for development of a project management plan* and a project management feedback*. The study suggests that a practice-oriented model of project management system should extent to level of particles and exposes its system logic; otherwise, it cannot be used for development of a project management plan and a project management feedback. Consequently, the meaning of a practice-oriented model of project management system becomes fundamentally problematic. System logic was built on new perspective of scientific project management* rooted in works of Descartes, Euler and Maxwell. The evidence related to system logic was compiled from recognized project management system described in PMBOK Guide editions. By proposing project management system logic, I primarily intend to provide an approach for integration and continuous improvement of some accepted examples of scientific project management practice and contribute to tradition of scientific project management.
