Numerical Modeling on the Transfer and Diffusion of Seawater Salinity During Ice Period in the Bohai Sea

2013
The extensive exploitation of sea ice often results in increase and accumulation of salinity in the seawater around the exploiting spot. Based on the ECOMSED model, this paper builds up a salinity diffusion model which is driven by three dynamical situations in order to quantitatively analyze the transfer and diffusion situation of salinity which is enhanced during ice period in the Bohai Sea. Results indicate that wind plays a more important role in the transfer and diffusion of salinity than tides do, and the effect of both tides and local wind make together is between what each of the two influential factors does respectively. Among the three bays in the Bohai Sea, the water exchange is the strongest in the Laizhou Bay, and the water exchange in the Bohai Bay is weaker than that in the Laizhou Bay but stronger than that in the Liaodong Bay. The water in the central area of the Bohai Sea plays an important role in restraining the salinity in the ice region through exchanging with the high salinity water of the three bays. Besides, there is a net salt flux to the outer sea through the Bohai Sea strait.
