WAS THE CHANGE OF RULES A SUCCESS? THE AWARENESS OF THE NEW RULES FOR PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS AND THE EFFECTS ON TRAFFIC BEHAVIOUR

Changes to the traffic rules for pedestrians and cyclists came into force on 1.6.1997. The Central Organisation for Traffic Safety in Finland (Liikenneturva) was tasked with finding out how well the new traffic rules had been assimilated by the public, how successful publicity concerning the changes had been, and what the traffic safety effects of the new rules were. Of the new traffic rules, the one concerning the obligation of cyclists to give way had received the most attention.
